Maison Margiela

Story

Maison Margiela was established in 1988 by Martin Margiela, a designer known for his elusive nature, often avoiding public appearances and interviews. Margiela initially gained attention as part of the Antwerp Six, a group of avant-garde designers who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium.

Aesthetic and Vision

Maison Margiela is celebrated for its avant-garde and conceptual design philosophy. Martin Margiela challenged traditional notions of fashion by embracing deconstruction, anonymity, and the idea of "unfinished" aesthetics. The brand's vision emphasizes creativity, intellect, and a rejection of mainstream fashion norms.

John Galliano Era

In 2014, Martin Margiela stepped down from the brand, and British designer John Galliano took over as the creative director. Galliano has brought his own artistic flair to Maison Margiela while respecting the brand's avant-garde heritage. Under Galliano's direction, Maison Margiela has continued to push creative boundaries.
