Nike
Story
Nike, Inc. was founded on January 25, 1964, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight under the name "Blue Ribbon Sports" (BRS). Initially operating as a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger (now ASICS), Bowerman and Knight began selling athletic shoes from the back of Knight's car at track meets. In 1971, the company officially became Nike, named after the Greek winged goddess of victory.
